Gigi has lived in Captain Cook for 27 years with her husband and two sons who were born and raised on the island. Jewelry art has been her way of expressing her passion for the beauty around her, including the influence of the ocean where she spends much of her time. The designing of new pieces is her favorite part (the figuring out of the process and possibilities), it is truly therapy through art.
GIgi designs and makes jewelry that often features natural items like shells, coral, gems, stones, crystals, beach glass, seeds, pearls, and sometimes even hand-dyed silks and leather. Several of her creations include items that she finds locally. Shells and coral found on local beaches, for example. She'll find pieces of beach glass and drill holes in them. She's also used Mgambo Beans or "Hawaiian Pussy Willow" which grows on very tall trees and look like fuzzy beads. Job's Tears also grow on the island and have a ready made hole in the seed. She uses delicate wiring techniques -- wire wrapping is a favorite -- to artfully bind it all together creating truly one-of-a kind pieces of art jewelry.
