Victoria is a Kona-based, Venezuela-born artist specializing in pottery faces called "karitas." Her inspiration for these came several years ago when she saw some mugs with faces that just made her smile.

She created her first karitas using a slab technique. Although relatively new to the wheel at the time, her pottery instructor, Mark Hudak, told her she had the skill to make the spherical faces on the pottery wheel. Victoria was hooked when she cut the first mouth open and heard a sigh coming out of the sphere. She had created life from clay.

Victoria likes caricatures and this is expressed on her pottery pieces as whimsical creatures of many colors and shapes. Victoria  also creates fish pieces that are art works in and of themselves, or can have utilitarian purposes. She also makes vases and plant holders, mugs, and wall hangings.

When she is not elbow deep in clay, she enjoys painting and making jewelry.
